FFL Transfer

Federal law permits individuals to sell guns to other individuals for non-commercial purposes inside their own state.

This means that as long as the buyer is not barred from possessing a firearm, you can normally merely sell a gun that you no longer want to another person face to face.

However, you must complete an FFL transfer if you purchased the firearm online, out of state, or if your state forbids private sales.

This entails having an FFL dealer conduct a background check on you and fulfill any other state regulations as if they had originally sold you the firearm.
